Siemens has introduced its first circular-economy product: the SIRIUS 3RW5 soft starter in a refurbished version, ordered with the "-Z R11" option. It was unveiled at Light + Building in March 2026.
How it works
Used 3RW5 units go back to Siemens. Critical components are replaced, and every function is tested to the same standard as a new device. Siemens says the refurbished unit is technically equivalent to a new one, and it fits, sets up and runs exactly the same way.
Why it matters
Refurbishment cuts CO₂ by up to 50% compared with manufacturing a new unit, and Siemens documents this in an Environmental Product Declaration. That is useful evidence for customers with carbon-reporting or sustainability targets.

- At the March 2026 announcement, UL/CSA, CCC and ATEX approvals were pending. Check current certification for the exact device.
