Siemens S7-1200 G1 phase-out: what it means for your next project

Siemens begins phasing out the first-generation S7-1200 on 1 November 2026. Here are the key dates, and why new projects should go G2.

SIMATIC S7-1200 G1 controllerSiemens

Siemens is starting the phase-out of the first-generation SIMATIC S7-1200 (G1) on 1 November 2026. If you build panels around the S7-1200, there is no immediate panic, but it is time to plan.

Key dates

  • 1 November 2026: the phase-out begins.
  • New-device ordering and spares: ask us to confirm the current lifecycle dates for your exact article numbers.

What to do now

For new projects, Siemens recommends the S7-1200 G2. Specifying G2 today avoids designing in a controller that will soon be off the price list. For existing machines, plan critical spares against the current lifecycle notice. Availability needs checking by article number.

Use Siemens’ migration guidance to check the hardware, software and I/O changes. G2 should not be assumed to be a direct replacement without checking the application.
